Befitting farewell to an outgoing another Hijrah year by holding the 16th Makkah Conference has become the hallmark of the Muslim World League. This is in addition to its own participation in and contribution to the organizing of the largest gathering on earth – Hajj, which has become a splendid example of crowd management, which, according to a Hajj guest of the MWL, is a wonder of the world.
Doubtless then, every Muharram issue of the MWL Journal becomes relatively heavier with stuff on the Makkah Conference, Hajj and the New Year. While welcoming the new Hijrah year, we have documented some of the highly important materials of referential values like the peeches of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz during the 16th Makkah Conference as well as at the annual Mina Hajj reception; the Arafat speech by Grand Mufti; the Arafat Call by MWL Secretary General Dr Abdullah Abdul Muhsin Al-Turki; the conference speech by Dr. Turki, and so on.
The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, makes an important speech in the Annual Hajj Symposium organised by the Ministry of Hajj where he warns against tarnishing Hajj with sectarianism. We have also for the record included the full text of the final communiqué issued at the end of the 15th Makkah Conference. Dr. Abdullah al-Turki Secretary General of the Muslim World League, emphasized in the 16th Makkah Conference and said that, “We need to educate the world on social values,” has virtually summed up the whole theme of, and the purpose of holding, the Makkah Conference, which this time was held on “Islamic Culture: Originality and Modernism.” We interviewed with Hajj guests in Mina that bring up their  viewpoints pertaining to the conference and the arrangement of the Hajj and also their suggestion to further improve it. This is besides a large number of reports pertaining to Hajj and the Conference that will give nearly complete information about the two events. Near about two million pilgrims performed Hajj this year; over 2 million copies of the Qur’an have been distributed so far besides the Muslim World roundup and Rabita roundup will be of interest to our readers. An unfortunate but familiar development. We begin this New Hijrah Year – and end up finishing this issue – at a sad note: the Gaza is in trouble again. Israel attacked and killed several innocent kids and women on the flimsy ground of its security concerns, which is increasingly exposing the impudent behaviour of Israel and the vulnerability of the Palestinians.
Pray Allah the Almighty to make things peaceful for the Palestinians, and facilitate for the Muslim Ummah a trouble-free new year!
