Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud Governor of Makkah Region At the Opening of The Second International Conference

Muslim World .. Issues and Solutions - Islamic Solidarity

Your Eminence Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti and President of the Supreme Council of the Rabita, Your Excellency Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdelmohsin Al-Turki, Secretary general of the Muslim World League. Excellencies, Eminences and Gentlemen,

Peace and blessing of Allah be upon you. It is my great pleasure to convey to you the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud who welcomes you in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Custodian of the two holy mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz has honored me to convey his kind regards and welcome you to your second country Saudi Arabia. He requested me to inaugurate this conference on his behalf and deliver his following speech:

I would like to thank the Muslim World League and all its officials for holding this conference. The selection of the Islamic solidarity as a topic of research and discussion is indeed a fitting choice. It’s along the lines of Solidarity that your endeavors on the popular level coincide with the efforts of the leaders on the official levels. Both sides must rally to serve our Muslim Umma in a time it’s passing through a critical phase of sedition and bitter conflicts. Killing of humans is occurring so often and repeatedly to such an extent it no longer raises aversion and abhorrence. This brought about devastation and destruction of terrible proportion in addition to economic deterioration. Individuals and families are facing suffering and tragedies in Syria for the last three years. This is only one of many examples.

This stressful situation has led to insecurity and instability in many Muslim countries. It has weakened cooperation between the nations of the Muslim world and their peoples. As a result, this state of affairs stresses the necessity to intensify efforts by dedicated people to promote the culture of reconciliation, tolerance and moderation. Efforts of solidarity should be supported for the sake of healing the rift that hit the Islamic unity. Anyone trying to compromise our religion and our unity must be thwarted. Our Prophet (PBUH) said “Allah likes that you follow three commands; to worship Him and not assign any partner to Him; to hold fast in the rope Allah and not deviate; and to give advice to your leader”.

The Umma’s hopes are pinned on you-after Allah- the scholars and propagators, intellectuals and social thinkers. Use the bounties and gifts of knowledge, science and understanding, bestowed on you by Allah to diagnose the ills of the nation and prescribe and administer the effective remedy. Contribute as much as you can to reunite this Umma and heal its rift. Spread and instill the culture of reconciliation, dialogue and moderation among its different strata. Warn our youth about blind fanaticism, sectarianism and partisanship, and personal views on the expenses of Islamic brotherhood, a brotherhood that embraces all under the banner of Islam. The Muslim is a brother of another Muslim. As long as he utters the pledge of monotheism and faces the Qibla, acknowledges the pillars of faith and Islam, his blood, wealth and honor are sacred. Anas Ibn Malik said: who bears witness that there is no God but Allah, faces the Qibla, performs our prayer, and eats from our sacrificial animal; he is the Muslim, equal in duties and obligations.

          Dear brothers,

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia works keenly to accomplish solidarity among Muslims. It’s a basic principle of this country that will never ignore nor will relinquish. It’s after all an obligation stemming of the foundations from which this country was built upon. The Qur’an and the Sunna are its constitution and a basic rule of governance. This country has realized that belonging to this Umma requires it to work towards reforming its conditions and preserving its religion. This religion wouldn’t be safeguarded without a perimeter of harmony and support between peoples, governments and countries. Allah states in the Qur’an, Sura Al-An’am, verse 2 {and hold fast in the rope of Allah, and do not deviate}. An-Numan Ibn Bashir, narrates on the authority of the Prophet (PBUH) “the example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy and compassion is like one single body, when one organ is hurt, fever and sleeplessness will befall the whole body”

The kingdom has given sensible attention to this much desired solidarity. It has worked for its realization in the past and has been doing so ever since. The effort falls within the principles that bind Saudi Arabia to the Muslim peoples and countries. The latest event has been the call to hold the fourth extraordinary summit conference which was held in Ramadan 1433 H in close proximity of the Kaaba, the Qibla of Islam and all Muslims. The topic was Islamic Solidarity. The venue has been selected to raise awareness of the participants. It’s to make them think of the awesome influence this place invokes. It meant to rekindle in their minds and hearts the significance of unity and cooperation between the members of the Umma. It is here where the message has started. It is from Makkah that the message of truth, justice, monotheism and humanity spread to cover the world. It is the message of mercy and goodness to mankind.

The Kingdom is working to achieve solidarity on the Arab level. It considers it to be a key factor within the circle of the Muslim world.

The Kingdom’s perception is based on a comprehensive responsibility towards achieving solidarity. Governments and political leaders should not be the only ones working towards realizing this goal. Organizations, NGO, scholars as well as intellectuals, preachers, the media and every influential entity on public opinion should take part. However, sincere intention and effort coordination are of the essence in preparing suitable programs and projects. In addition to this, people should be prepared both through cultural and media outlets.

The Kingdom sees that Islamic solidarity will be achieved through envisaged objectives. Most important of which are united ranks as well as putting off the hot spots of conflicts and root causes of strife.  Furthermore, the potential of this Umma should be routed towards its interests while steering it away from evil pitfalls. Such concerted effort will certainly bring it to the level of global participation in humanitarian issues.

Undoubtedly, the roads will be scattered with obstacles, but these will be overcome by the help of God. For Allah has promised those who trust Him will be rewarded abundantly. The first attempt may not bear fruit. However, one should not stop trying again. Armed with sincerity, honesty and confidence in addition to the firm belief of his action, man will reap success at the end. We have seen in past experiences that patience is the mount of success. This success will not come easy; it will be fraught with hardship. Nevertheless, man will soar to the highest peak of success and fulfill the impossible dream with good intention and strong determination.

Our hope lies first and foremost with our Almighty Creator who will fulfill our expectations, then, on the Rabita and other similar organizations and bodies to make raising awareness efforts. They should inform and educate people about the significance of Islamic solidarity. They should assert its necessity for the benefit of the Umma and its progress.

At the end, I would like to thank the Muslim World League and its Supreme Council President and its General Secretary for their outstanding efforts. They are educating the Umma about its duties, religion, homelands and issues. They are also spurning suspicions and falsehoods leveled against Islam and its civilization and its symbols.

I implore Allah to crown your efforts with success for that which will benefit our Muslim Umma as a whole.
