15th Makkah Conference
Islamic Culture: Originality And Modernism
All praise belongs to Allah Lord of the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and his household and companions and upon those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment.
Culture is considered to be one of the basic pillars in building nations, and establishing renaissance of peoples. Hence, a nation’s sound culture, free of any distortion will have a great impact on the healthy tendency, integrity and stability of the society. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an, Sura Al-A’raf, verse 58 “From the land that is clean and good, by the will of its Cherisher, springs up produce, (rich) after its kind: but from the land that is bad, springs up nothing but that which is niggardly: thus do we explain the signs by various (symbols) to those who are grateful.”
Every society is characterized by its culture. Each culture has its advantages, resources and landmarks.
History has witnessed many cultures and civilizations; these have included Greek, Roman, Farsi, and Hindi cultures. When the light of guidance and Islam shone from the land of Mecca, the world has known the greatest culture and civilization in the history of mankind and humanity. This has become to be known as the Arab and Islamic culture. This culture has drawn its path from the Qur’an and the pure prophetic Sunnah. This culture has balanced reason and conscience, and relied on the accurate transfer from its authentic sources. It has thus become a human culture, inviting to coexistence, dialogue and understanding.
In fact, the Islamic culture is the living image of the Muslim nation; it’s the one that defines the features of its character. It is this culture, which adjusts its march in life and defines its direction. It is the true expression of the doctrine of the Muslim nation and its principles.
It holds the heritage of the Umma dear to its heart fearing its loss and disappearance. It is after all its doctrine for which it works hard to safeguard, spread and propagate.
It’s no wonder that the Islamic culture’s components, features and characteristics constitute the utmost importance in the life of a Muslim and his moral fiber. Through it, the Muslim links his glorious past to his apprehensive present, and his desired future.
The Muslim World League is cognizant of the importance of the Muslim culture in preserving the Umma’s identity. For that reason, it has selected “Islamic Culture…Originality and Actuality” as the topic for the fifteenth Makkah Conference. A group of scholars and specialists will attend and participate in this gathering.

The MWL expresses its thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud for sponsoring the conference, and for his support of the Rabita and its programs.
