International Commission on Scientific Signs in the Qur'an and the Sunnah
The ICSSQS is an affiliate of the Muslim World League with independent legal personality. It was founded following a decision of the World Supreme Council for Mosques adopted during its ninth session in the year 1404 Hijra.

The Commission aims at projecting all aspects of the scientific signs in the Holy Qur'an and the immaculate Sunnah (tradition of Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him), lay down the stipulations and the rules guiding the formation of independent judgment in elucidating the signs, exposing the facts of the implications of the meanings of the verses of the Holy Qur'an and the Hadith (traditions of Prophet Muhammed, peace be on him) concerning the cosmic sciences in the light of modern scientific discoveries. The Commission also strives to interpret all aspects of the linguistic implications without affectation provide preachers and the world media with invaluable research work  to be used by each individual in his respective field of specialization.

Moreover, the Commission takes measures to publicize the approved research works in a suitable style befitting the level of education and culture of all concerned with translations into the various languages, and join cosmic sciences with the facts of faith. The Commission endeavors to introduce the contexts of the approved research woks into the curricula of the various educational institutions and stages, and to train a generation of scholars and researchers to study scientific issues and cosmic facts in the light of the texts of the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

What is meant by scientific signs?
Scientific signs are one of the kinds of signs in the Ever-Glorious Qur'an and the purified Sunnah, which include:
Linguistic and rhetorical signs

  • Historical signs
  • Legislative signs
  • Scientific signs
The scientific signs in the Qur’an and the Sunnah are the interpretation of their meanings from a scientific perspective. They highlight the proven scientific facts mentioned in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, which were unfeasible at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Thus, it becomes crystal clear that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was truthful in conveying to the Muslims what Allah (Exalted and Glorified be He) revealed to him.

A Profile:
  • In 1404 A.H., the Commission on Scientific Signs of the Qur'an and Sunnah was founded in response to a resolution issued by the World Supreme Council of Mosques, in its ninth session.
  • In 1406 A.H., the World Supreme Council of Mosques accredited the establishment of the Commission on Scientific Signs of the Qur'an and Sunnah whose first general secretary was his eminence, Sheikh `Abd al-Majid az-Zindani. Its headquarters was established in the Muslim World League in Makkah and consequently several branches were established within Saudi Arabia and others outside, to achieve its goals.
  • In 1423 A.H, the Constitutional Council of the Muslim World League, in its thirty-seventh session, issued a resolution to develop the commission under the name of The World Commission on Scientific Signs of the Qur'an and Sunnah. It is one of the independent commissions which belong to the Muslim World League. It includes the General Assembly, the Administration Board, the Executive Committee, and the General Secretary.
  • Dr. Abdullah al-Muslih has been the general secretary since 1423 A.H.

Goals
  • To establish the rules that organize personal judgments in identifying the scientific signs in the Qur’an and the Sunnah;
  • To objectively reveal the subtle meanings of the scientific verses of the Qur’an and the Hadiths in the light of the principles of the interpretation of the Qur’an, linguistic meanings,and the objectives of Shari`ah (Islamic law);
  • To make a connection between science and faith and to incorporate approved researches in the curricula in all educational institutions and throughout all stages;
  • To participate in qualifying scientists and researchers to study scientific issues in the light of what has been scientifically proved in the Qur’an and Sunnah;
  • To make use of the scientific signs in the Qur’an and Sunnah to be a means of Da`wah (calling to the Path of Allah);
  • To organize and coordinate all efforts exerted worldwide in the field of scientific signs, and to cooperate with foundations and centers working in the same field.
The Commission on Scientific Signs of the Qur'an and Sunnah uses the legal means in the view of Islamic law including:
  1. Establishing criteria for evaluating researches related to the scientific signs in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
  2. Studying the Qur’anic verses and Prophetic Traditions that were scientifically inimitable.
  3. Scrutinizing scientific researches on the scientific signs in the Qur’an and Sunnah and approving what is authentic in the view of both the Shari`ah and cosmic sciences.
  4. Encouraging individual-based or collaborated researches in the scientific signs in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
  5. Coordinating the efforts exerted by researchers in this field.
  6. Seeking, examining, and evaluating the work of scientists in the field of scientific signs.
  7. Deepening the connection between Muslim and non-Muslim specialists in the Islamic and cosmic sciences.
  8. Communicating with organizations that are specialized in the Islamic and cosmic sciences and exchanging relevant information.
  9. Publishing books and periodicals on scientific signs and distributing them to whoever is interested in this field worldwide.
  10. Holding conferences and seminars on the scientific signs of the Qur’an and Sunnah and publishing researches as well as participating in other relevant conferences and seminars.
  11. Publishing approved researches in a way that coincides with the mentality and culture of the addressee. This also includes translation into various languages.
  12. Providing the callers for Islam and those who work in the mass media worldwide, whether individuals or foundations, with authentic and beneficial researches.
  13. Cooperating with educational foundations, and specialized scientific bodies, as well as holding meetings for those who are working in this field.
  14. Seeking the approval of those who are in charge of both Islamic private and public educational foundations that are interested in science and culture, in an attempt to incorporate the scientific researches authorized by the commission into their curricula.
  15. Motivating universities to provide opportunities to graduates to pursue their postgraduate studies in this branch of knowledge and to offer scholarships in this domain
