Fifty years ago, under the patronage of His Majesty King Saud Bin Abdul Aziz, the Muslim World League came into existence which in times to come became the symbol of the collective will and aspiration of the Muslim peoples worldwide.
The Islamic Conference convened in Makkah al-Mukarramah in Dhul-Hijjah 1381 decided to have an independent, international, and pan-Islamic organization, in Makkah al- Mukarramah, the seat of the Revelation and the hub of Islam, to diffuse and disseminate the eternal message of the faith all over the world.
While performing this great duty imposed on the Muslim Ummah by Allah Almighty, the League also sought to clarify all misconceptions and misunderstandings concerning the faith and resist pernicious propaganda and campaigns launched by quarters inimical to Islam.
Conceived as an effective vehicle of inter- Islamic cooperation and solidarity by the eminent Muslim leaders, thinkers and scholars who had assembled at that time in Makkah to chart out a plan for the uplift of the Islamic nation, the League also strived to help the Muslim people with what they may need and provide succor during their trials and tribulations.
In order to realize these lofty goals, the Rabita makes use of all possible means and resources at its disposal and also of those made available by the modern technology. The most important among these is making untiring and intensive efforts to introduce the Islamic Shari'ah as the sole basis of law and custom in every country and society which declares its allegiance to Islam.
Working on the principle of mutual consultation (Shura), which has been so emphatically enjoined by Allah and His Apostle, it has evolved an elaborate strategy of holding discussions, and consultations and securing coordination for the Dawah work among all concerned organizations and agencies.
During the pilgrimage (Hajj), which, undoubtedly, is the biggest human concourse on earth, when millions of Muslims assemble at one time in Makkah, the Rabita strives to make as much use of this occasion as possible in the important domain of spreading Islamic enlightenment and consciousness through such means as holding public lectures , symposia and seminars etc.
On this occasion, the League organizes international seminars on important Islamic themes which are attended by eminent scholars and thinkers at a Hajj camp organized by the League in Mina. These lectures are listened to with rapt attention by the audience which avails of the facility of the simultaneous translation of these talks in the main languages spoken by Muslims in the different regions of the world. Through such lectures and talks, the pilgrims get a deep insight in great many Islamic issues and themes. The League also deploys its resources to enable Muslims coming from the different regions of the world to get to know each other, thus covering this occasion into a grand pan-Islamic assembly of friendship and goodwill.
